The Story of Tata Group

The story begins in 1868. Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata started a trading company with a capital of ₹21,000 at the age of 29.

Then during his England visit, he observed the impressive quality of men, machinery and product. He wanted to implement the same in India.

In 1874, Jamsetji establishes a textile mill in Nagpur. This was a bold move as he didn't choose Bombay - The Textile hub.

He pioneered employee welfare initiatives, long before they are enacted by law. That's why Tata Group is always known as a 'people-first enterprise.

In 1903, The Taj Mahal Hotel was opened for business. This was a dream of Jamsetji Tata.

Jamsetji passes away in Germany in 1904. His older son, Sir Dorabji Tata became Chaimain.

Sir DorabJi established Tata Iron and Steel Company in 1907. It is known as Tata Steel now.

Today, the Tata group has a presence in over 100 countries. It is India's most valuable brand.
